Tim Szonyi has over 25 years' experience as both a C-suite executive and top tier management consultant having worked around the globe and lived in Latin America & Caribbean and the USA. His passion for brands, integrated business strategy and disciplined execution is second to none.
As an executive Tim has held Commercial Leadership roles in both B2B and B2C with blue chip global organisations including MARS Corporation, Levi Strauss and Diageo before leading entrepreneurial private equity backed businesses, first as CEO with Artisan Spirit Merchants (now an Asahi company) and more recently as Commercial Director for Tribe Breweries, Australia’s largest privately owned contract brewer.
Tim’s Management Consulting career began with 3 years as Regional Partner Americas at McKinney Rogers based in NYC, working for clients around the globe to embed a military based philosophy of strategy execution and high performance teams. More recently Tim was an Associate Partner at McKinsey & Company, the world’s premier management consulting firm, where he was a leader in the Marketing & Sales and Consumer & Retail practices, leading major transformations across industries over a 4 year period. Through his consulting career Tim has worked across multiple industries including Grocery and Specialty Retail, Consumer Packaged Goods and Services, Alcohol Beverage, Wholesale Distribution, Retail Telco, Banking and Finance, Mining and Industrials, Animal Health and into Pharmaceuticals.
During Tim’s time with McKinsey he completed the commercial due diligence for Advent Partners investment into Tribe Breweries which then allowed Tim to facilitate Tribes first major craft beer brand acquisition (The Mornington Peninsula Brewery) and then as Tribes Commercial Director he developed the organisational and brand innovation strategies, built a team of ~80 people across innovation, marketing, sales and on-premise, launching 8 major brand innovations over a 12 month period to more than double the size of the business.
Tim is currently a Non-executive Director of Industry Beans, one of Australia’s fastest growing national specialty coffee brands, where he led the strategy development of the current operating model, raised capital to fund national growth and expansion and is a founding member of the board where he now works with the founders to evolve the business strategy, organisational capabilities and marketing and sales execution.
Tim’s passion remains investing in and advising entrepreneurial start-up’s and early-stage organisations to build and execute scalable, disruptive business models, with highly relevant brands and commercial strategy for today’s consumers and sales channels.
Tim is a Melbournian through and through where resides with his wife and 2 teenage boys.
